RTS Pregnancy-Related Death Collection (formerly known as A Mother’s Memory)

RTS Pregnancy-Related Death Collection is designed to assist healthcare providers in supporting families grieving the unexpected death of a loved one from pregnancy, birth, or after-birth factors (up to 1 year postpartum). Included in the collection are tools for healthcare professionals as well as support materials for the bereaved.

Labor and delivery and the emergency department are the two most common areas where pregnancy-related deaths, also referred to as maternal deaths, occur. For most hospitals and communities, these deaths are rare. This creates a context for having specific bereavement supplies in a centralized location (e.g., the spiritual care department) and accessible by any hospital unit 24 hours a day. The enclosed checklist and sample scripts walk clinicians through presenting the box, offering support, and creating keepsakes. We hope this collection forms a bridge of caring and support from us to you and from you to the family. 

This resource can also be presented to a family when a mother dies from causes other than childbirth.
